Introduction

MediaCow Touch 2 is a PC-like tablet computer project with a focus on security, repairability and modularity. Most parts of the project are open source, with the exception being the System on Module itself.

The project started in March 2021 with actual development starting in June 2024.

Name

MediaCow Touch 2 is part of the MediaCow series, the history behind the name is covered in the MediaCow page.

Hardware Overview

MediaCow Touch 2 uses PC-like hardware while having unique features that have not been seen in tablets. Many of the parts are modular and can be replaced or upgraded.

System

MediaCow Touch 2 makes use of a system on module, a board that contains the processor (SoC), memory and other critical components, allievating me the task of working with the SoC directly.

The System on Module used is the LattePanda Mu, a System on Module that uses an x86-64 processor instead of an ARM64 SoC. According to Intel, the N100 is targeted towards use in mobile devices. Using an x86 processor has its benefits including better software support and laptop-like performance.

Embedded Controller

A dedicated ARM SiP (System in Package) is used as the main embedded controller. The SiP used is the Sunplus/Tibbo SP7021 that has four ARM Cortex-A9 cores, a ARM926 core and 512MB of in-pacakage DDR3 RAM.
